JOB OFFER

Controller

To further expand our financial organization, we are looking for a new colleague.

Who we are

SMT started as a boyhood dream. Two friends, Mark and Michiel, met as children in the sandbox in Voorburg. Years later, in 1997, they built the foundation in Michiel's attic room for what is now SMT: a company that makes IT environments organized, fast, and secure by bringing all data together in one place.

What started with a handful of techies from Zoetermeer (“a small club of extremists
“Specialized technicians,” as customers called us back then, has grown into an organization of around 50 people that is currently Great Place to Work certified and has been helping clients like Rijkswaterstaat and PostNL for years. We are still growing, and you can feel it: enough changes ensure we never stand still, and there is plenty of room to improve things ourselves.

Our core values are in everything we do:

  • Keep it Simple: data without the hassle, no unnecessary frills,
  • Be Brutally Honest: we say it like it is and a deal is a deal,
  • Show Craftsmanship: not good? Then we'll do it again,
  • and with Human Magic: the idea that the real difference lies not in what you can do, but in who you are.

Your team

You will be working in a staff team of five people that unburdens the entire internal organization. We do not just perform executive duties: we think along, identify issues, and provide advice, both solicited and unsolicited.

No nine-to-five box thinking: in addition to our own specializations, we work as a team, cover for each other during holidays, and step in where necessary.

If you prefer to stay within a strictly defined job profile, this is not the role for you. However, if you feel at home in a broad, versatile role with the freedom to take initiative, then this is the perfect role for you!

What you are going to do

Finance, your main domain:

  • Maintain the accounting records in a timely and complete manner: create and send sales invoices, pay creditors on time, and pursue an active debtor policy.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
  • Prepare financial reports for the Management Team.
  • Monitor balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow
  • Analyze deviations between budget and actuals, identify risks, and contribute to forecasts and budget rounds.
  • Building and improving reports and dashboards with Power BI
  • Manage and optimize AFAS (Finance and Projects) for all users
  • Ensuring that tax obligations are met on time and correctly
  • Actively contribute to the further professionalization and optimization of internal (finance) processes; improve internal controls, maintain documentation, contribute ideas during audits, and maintain contact with the external auditor.

Within the staff, we all have our own main domain, as well as shared staff responsibility. Think of this as:

  • Reviewing and providing input on contracts and other legal documents that come across our desks.
  • Contribute to ISO-related matters.
  • Assisting colleagues with questions
  • Occasionally picking up something that clearly belongs to no one but needs to be taken care of.

Who you are

You have solid AFAS knowledge and, of course, finance experience, and you simply enjoy rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty with the administration. This is not a role for you where you merely supervise what someone else does.

At the same time, there is an improver inside you: if you see that something can be done smarter, faster, or more clearly, you work it out and implement it. You are pragmatic: you see a problem, don't think too long about the perfect solution, and just get on with it.

You love Power BI, or at least are clearly eager to develop your skills further in it.

And you feel comfortable in a small team that is still very much in development. You like to count on your teammates, and they on you.

Some practical matters

For the main Finance domain, you need 28 hours per week. Would you prefer more hours?
Turning, up to a maximum of 40? That is certainly open for discussion; we have plenty of ideas about that and would be happy to see what fits with you. The days you work are by mutual agreement.

The position falls within our salary scale B, which starts at €4.250 and ends at
€5.800 based on a full-time work week. The salary we agree on together depends on your experience.

Furthermore, we provide a laptop and phone: you can choose between Windows or Apple. We have a collective pension scheme with Nationale Nederlanden, for which we pay 50% of the premium, a travel allowance, 26 vacation days per year (for full-time work), and ample opportunities for development and training.

Have you become enthusiastic?

Do you recognize yourself in this profile and are you ready for a new challenge? Then we would love to have a cup of coffee with you!
